The core area of the East China Sea Hairtail National Aquatic Resources Reserve will officially enter a two-and-a-half month fishing ban from 12:00 on April 16.  On the morning of the 5th, Xiangshan Marine and Fishery law enforcement team organized law enforcement officers to carry out patrol inspections in relevant waters and publicize the ban on fishing policy.

“ The two areas of Xiangshan Yushan and Naniushan belong to the core protection zone of the East China Sea hairtail ban range. Starting from 12 o 'clock tomorrow, fishing operations should comply with the summer season fishing ban system,” said law enforcement officers aboard Zhexiangyu 12058 in the sea near Yushan.

As the most important growth and breeding place of hairtail in the East China Sea, the East China Sea Hairtail National Aquatic Resources Reserve is located in the northeast waters of Zhejiang Province from Taizhou Islands to the north of Hangzhou Bay, with a total area of about 22,500 square kilometers, and the core area of about 10 nautical miles on both sides of the no-fishing zone line within the area covering about 0.72 million square kilometers.

In recent years, hairtai resources, which used to be the four major economic fish in the East China Sea, have been decreasing year by year, especially in the coastal areas, without any fishing season. Aiming to restore Marine resources, the East China Sea Hairtail National Aquatic  Resources Reserve was established in 2008 to protect the most important spawning grounds, feeding grounds and migration channels of economic fish in the East China Sea, including hairtail, yellow croaker and silver pomfish. Since 2013, Zhejiang Province has for the first time listed the provisions of the fishing ban in the core area as one of the contents of the "Zhejiang Province 2013 Marine Fishing Ban Notice",clarifying that from 12 o 'clock on April 16 to 12 o 'clock on July 1, all fishing vessels in the reserve are prohibited from fishing operations and the rest in accordance with summer fishing moratorium.

“The rise and fall of hairtail resources is related to the stability of the Marine fishing industry, and the ban on fishing in the protected area can not only restore hairtail resources well, but effectively promote the protection of other economic fish in the East China Sea, which is of great significance for maintaining fishery production and ecological balance in the East China Sea,” said responsible officer from County Fisheries Bureau.

During the fishing ban period, the county Marine and Fishery law enforcement team will carry out irregular cruise inspections, and jointly strengthen the supervision and inspection of fishing vessels and fishing auxiliary vessels and trading markets, in case of any illegal fishing and  sales.
